Frequently asked questions
How do I save or export audio?
Generate speech, then click Download in the player. A macOS save panel opens so you choose exactly where the file (WAV or MP3) is saved — Out Loud only writes to the location you pick.
Is my text sent to the cloud?
No. Speech is generated on your own device using a local model. Your document text is never uploaded. See our privacy policy for details.
The app won't speak or there's no audio
Check that your system output isn’t muted and the in-app volume slider is up, then quit and relaunch Out Loud. If it still doesn’t work, email us with your macOS and app version.
Which file types can I open?
Out Loud reads plain text and common document and e-book formats. Open a file with the document picker, or paste text directly into the app.
